Commutator Copper

Metelec’s trapezoidal commutator profiles are supplied in silver-bearing copper. We can supply products in a wide range of lengths or in finished components.

Our relationship with the Gindre Group gives us access to many years of experience in the production of semi-finished products, including high-quality copper commutators.

Trapezoidal commutator profiles are used in direct current (DC) motors. In a DC motor, the commutator is a device that switches the direction of current flow in the armature windings as the rotor turns. This switching action ensures that the magnetic field in the rotor stays in sync with the magnetic field in the stator, allowing the motor to generate torque and spin.

A trapezoidal commutator profile refers to the shape of the current waveform that is applied to the motor windings by the commutator. The waveform resembles a trapezoid with a flat top and slanted sides.

Using advanced technology, we offer copper commutator sections made to our customer’s exact drawings and specifications. We are able to design and produce the most technically challenging profiles with experience in producing strict dimensional tolerances including C-connectors, L-shape, Y-shape, and H-shapes as well as profiles for heat sinks.

We are also able to produce profiles in both high conductivity C101 – ETP copper and oxygen-free copper. This allows copper parts to be produced minimising the need for machining, saving processing time and cost for our customers.
